Artist Philosophy

Dr. David Valiente’s education which includes a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, has a great influence in his art work.  He has intergraded psychology with the themes of his sculptures by capturing human nature with all its vulnerability and polarities: from its faults to its virtues, from its darkness to its goodness, from its weakness to its strength, and from its craziness to its normality. He wants the individual art lover to be touched by his art pieces deep down to their psyche due to the human nature stories brought out in his work. Dr. Valiente wants people to be intrigued by the psychological message that it conveys.

Every sculpture piece tells a story about humanity and its range of psychological issues. The individual’s curiosity to figure out the psychological message that each piece brings will draw them to it and help them to identify with it. In addition, the artist would like for people to physically interact with the sculpture.  He wants art lovers to be hands on, move certain pieces, and play with it.

While under hypnosis, Dr. Valiente gets many of his ideas for his sculptures. He is a certified hypnosis therapist in private practice for more than fifteen years. In a deep hypnotic trance he is able to let his subconscious mind reveal to him what he should design for his sculptures. Many of the subconscious symbols he portrays in his art pieces try to capture feelings, mental disorders and psychological traits or characteristics. Finally, Dr. Valiente often uses nudes in his art work due to his appreciation for the beauty of the human body.
