ARTIST STATEMENT

My art whether working in ceramics, watercolors or acrylics is a dance between the outer world of beauty and nature and the inner world of intuition, spontaneous expression and symbols. The observer can detect the dance of opposites as I try to use the obvious and the hidden, the light and the shadow, the ancient and the new, to invoke a sense of wonder. I love working with the spontaneous, the moment to moment contact with the demands of the medium and my response to those accidents that gives each pieces its uniqueness. I invite the viewer to see my art as I see life. One can dream and plan but life is flavored by our response to the unexpected. The subject itself is of little importance. It is those tiny “accidents” which invite us to move in for closer inspection. They form images and patterns read only by our inner mind. We are invited to share in the dance of creation were time is suspended and we can transcend the ordinary. Our soul is captured as we are awakened to the joy and wonder of the creative force itself.
